A little about me

My name is Anne Boothroyd. I am a creative and writer with a passion for advertising, business and ideas that influence and create change.

After studying a Bachelor of Visual Communication at Massey University and a Diploma of Creative Advertising at Axis Ad School, I landed a job at Colenso BBDO. Arguably New Zealand's best agency, then and now. I grew up at Colenso working on some of New Zealand’s biggest brands, including Air New Zealand, Vodafone and Yellow Pages, and new business pitches for clients like IAG, Vodafone and Hell Pizza.

Six years later I moved back to my hometown of Wellington, spending two years at Clemenger BBDO as a Senior Creative. Social Marketing provided a new challenge, including New Zealand Transport Agency campaigns for speed, intersections and drink-driving.

Back in Auckland, I joined Saatchi & Saatchi as Creative Group Head. During my three years here I worked across all the agency's key clients, including Telecom, Sanitarium, Toyota, South Auckland Health Foundation and Breast Cancer Research Trust. I also had the privilege of working closely with Nicky Bell, CEO, on the reinvention of the agency, securing existing clients and new business and helping to restore the culture.

I love ideas and have been awarded at every major award show for both my creativity and effectiveness. My accolades include gold at Cannes, Award, Young Guns, Axis, Caples, Clio and New York Festival, plus two nominations and a yellow pencil at D&AD. I have also been awarded silver, gold and platinum at the New Zealand and Asian Effies.

My recent adventures include several years of freelance, working with agencies and small businesses. A role as Creative Group Head at Ogilvy NZ, food columnist for B. Magazine, co-owner of my own small business, The Toy Shop and most recently Mum to my gorgeous little boy, Matteo.

I have had the privilege of working with some of the best in the business. Here is what a few of them have to say about me.

Nicky Bell
Chief Executive
Saatchi & Saatchi NZ

“Anne and I worked together for three years while she was employed at Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand as Creative Group Head.

I liked Anne from the moment I met her and set about making it my business to convince her to join us. It was clear that she was smart, insightful and a talent with a unique and passionate view on what great work should look like.

Anne joined us very early in my tenure as CEO - just as we began to work on the reinvention of the agency.  It certainly wasn’t always an easy journey, in fact it was often extremely challenging, but it was made better for the fact that Anne was with us.  She maintained her support and belief in where we could take our agency and played a big part in helping us evolve and re-energise the culture.

Beyond her talent as a writer (and strategic thinker), Anne is a wonderful mentor to young teams in the business. They thrive under her guidance and leadership. Likewise Anne formed very tight and effective partnerships with strategists and account leaders and patiently guided some of the more junior account people along the way.

So if you are considering working with Anne, you should. You won't regret it.”

Antonio Navas
Saatchi & Saatchi NZ

"Anne Boothroyd worked under my direct supervision at Saatchi & Saatchi for a period of two years ending in May 2013. During that period, I had the great pleasure of seeing her create and craft campaigns that stood out and made an impact.

Anne is a hard-working self-starter who invariably understands exactly what a project is all about from the outset, and how to get it done quickly and effectively. During her time as Creative Group Head, I cannot remember an instance where she missed a major deadline.

Anne is a resourceful, creative and solution-orientated person who was frequently able to come up with new and innovative approaches to her assigned projects. She functioned extremely well as a team leader, and she also worked effectively as a mentor to other young talent in the department.

On the interpersonal side, Anne has superior written and verbal communication skills. She gets along extremely well with staff under her supervision, as well as colleagues at her own level. She is highly respected, as both a person and a professional, by colleagues, employees, suppliers and clients alike.

In closing, as detailed above, based on my experience working with her, I can unreservedly recommend Anne to you for any position."
